Adult Basic Ed & GED

The New Century Learning System helps adult educators address the broadly varied needs of all of their students. TABE reading and math scores, where available, guide enrollment of students into the program. From that point, New Century's diagnostic assessments and highly individualized instruction will advance each learner at his own pace and in proportion to his independent study time commitment.

Diagnostic Assessment

New Century's adaptive diagnostic tests use dynamic item response theory to determine the student's functional skill level across several strands of learning in reading, language arts, and mathematics. New Century reports, such as the diagnostic profile, help teachers to review individual strengths with each student, and identify which skills will be improved first.

Highly Individualized Instruction

An Individualized lesson path is created automatically to meet the learning needs of each adult learner. Students mastering a learning objective quickly are directed into lessons with higher levels of complexity and to new skills. For those adults who struggle, New Century provides additional developmental lessons with scaffolding content to help re-build skills to mastery of the learning objective.

Continuous Assessment

Mastery tests are embedded in the curriculum after every few lessons. Using the results from these tests, the software electronically adjusts instruction as students advance. The program's frequent progress reports help adult learners monitor their own progress.

Standards Aligned Curriculum and Life Skills

New Century provides individualized access to high school content correlated to state frameworks and to the GED requirements. New Century's curriculum uses examples from science, history, and geography to teach critical subject content and is age appropriate, even for older students struggling with lower level skills.

Reward Individual Achievement

Beginning with B.F. Skinner, researchers have confirmed the motivational effect of incentive point systems in education to keep students on task. The New Century software awards points for successfully completed lessons and Mastery Tests. Small prizes and recognition for points earned are effective with adults, keeping them on task and focused.

GED Prep to Assure Readiness and Success

When students have progressed to high school level content, transition to the New Century GED Preparation program will help them prepare for the GED exam. New Century measures the student's readiness for the exam utilizing tests blueprinted to the GED, and then provides individually targeted instruction to teach critical tested objectives.

Teacher Management System

Teachers can access assessment results, instructional plans, and progress reports quickly to efficiently manage the learning of students at varied ability levels in Adult Basic Education. Group summary reports help teachers determine which students are ready to prepare for and to take the GED exam.

Success for Teachers and Administrators

Using the New Century Learning System to automate the diagnostic and individualized instructional process, teachers have achieved the highest levels of student performance and state recognition, including state teacher of the year. Administrators have successfully documented increases in TABE performance and GED completion while simultaneously expanding services in their community.
