New Century Education Corporation Acquires Test Item Bank from Levings Learning

(September 7,  2005, Piscataway, New Jersey)

New Century Education Corporation is pleased to announce that it has acquired an item bank and related curriculum content, collectively known as the Phoenix Assets, from the bankrupt estate of Levings Learning, LLC.  In addition, Ms. Christine Drew, lead developer of the Phoenix Assets, has joined New Century as Editor of Testing and Assessment.  Using the Phoenix Assets, Ms. Drew and her team will accelerate development of New Century’s Test Focused Instruction modules for use in several states.  According to Ms. Drew, “I am pleased to join a Company dedicated to improving student performance through teaching new skills and not just drill and practice.”  Jim Griffin, CEO of New Century, states that “Our Test Focused Instruction products deliver a test which not only predicts performance on state proficiency exams, but also diagnoses the individual objectives that the student has yet to master on that test.  Our product then prescribes specific proprietary lessons that teach students those discrete objectives they must master to pass the exam.  School clients find this a highly focused and effective means of assuring their students learn the tested objectives.”

“The Test Focused Instruction modules (www.ncecorp.com/testfocusedinstruction.htm) are in addition to our Integrated Instructional System, which is a diagnostic/prescriptive solution to assure students are learning all the state standards, not just the tested ones.  As a result, we help schools cover both bases: the broader standards that the state wants all students to learn, and; the narrower list of tested standards upon which teachers’ and administrators’ performance is evaluated,” according to Karen Brandhorst, President of New Century.

Headquartered in Piscataway, N.J., New Century Education Corporation offers educators a complete program including software installation, technical support, training and staff development through its national network of support personnel.
