New Century’s Interactive Algebra Course responds to the
need for all students to master algebra concepts and skills to meet higher
standards of mathematics achievement. Utilizing New Century’s proven
diagnostic/prescriptive approach to learning, the course correlates highly
to most states’ Algebra 1 requirements.
Interactive Algebra* was developed by Dr. Ralph
Heimer, a noted mathematics educator from the University of Pennsylvania
and author of mathematics software and texts.
Individualized Assignment
In the New Century program, students begin Algebra instruction fully
prepared to learn:
 | Students are automatically assigned the Interactive Algebra course
after demonstrating mastery of Pre-Algebra skills.
|
 | Determination of Pre-Algebra skills mastery may be based on New
Century Diagnostic testing or satisfactory completion of prerequisite
lessons. |
Instructional Design
 | Every lesson addresses one or more learning objectives and is
comprised of two parts: a tutorial and matching practice/test items. |
 | The tutorials provide the necessary building blocks for learning the
targeted outcomes. |
 | The practice exercises help students acquire the desired learning
outcomes by providing
immediate, appropriate corrective feedback when errors are made during
the learning process. |
Navigation
 | Students can review and repeat the tutorial
content, then proceed to the practice/test
section.
|
 | Students can proceed to the practice/test items first to test for
prior competence of any particular set of objectives, and thus bypass
unneeded
lessons. |
Achievement Assessment
 | Learning Progress is monitored automatically. No additional testing
is required. |
 | Practice/test items are generated from an item bank so students
receive different items each time they take a lesson.
|
 | Learning Performance summary is automatically provided at the
completion of each lesson. |
Integrated Progress Reports
 | Lesson completion information, time on task and mastery scores are
reported automatically and appear in New Century Student and Group
Lesson History
reports. |
